Activists claim false ceiling fell at Balgandharva Art Gallery, PMC to conduct inspections | Pune News

Pune: Activists from the city unit of Patit Pavan Sanghatana (PPS) have claimed that a part of the false ceiling of Balgandharva Rangmandir Art Gallery fell on Wednesday morning. “A part of the false ceiling came down unexpectedly. At the time of the incident, there was no one at the art gallery, but the incident warrants a detailed inspection and inquiry. This is because it is a well-known gallery and famous for exhibitions. Many artists and famous personalities frequently visit this gallery,” Swapnil Naik of PPS said. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials said corrective measures would be taken at the art gallery based on inspections and inquiry. Naik said the contractor should face strict action for poor quality work. He said a detailed inquiry should be conducted by the authorities to prevent such mishaps in future. Civic officials said they would carry out inspections and an inquiry into the incident. Rohidas Gavhane, a senior official of PMC’s building and estate department, said they were yet to receive a detailed report on the incident. “We will coordinate with the PMC’s cultural department to find out the cause of the incident and take corrective measures accordingly,” Gavhane said. PMC has proposed a redevelopment plan for Balgandharva Rangmandir; however, this plan is yet to gather pace.
