Quick-thinking resident foiled a kidnapping attempt in Vikhroli’s Damodar Park.

MUMBAI: The presence of mind shown by a resident prevented a man from kidnapping two minor girls from a housing society in Vikhroli. Mohammad Zakaria Qamar Naeem Shamsi (21), a resident of Damodar Park, Maitri Co-operative Housing Society, who helped police arrest Suraj Prasad Banwasi, a native of Madhya Pradesh, told police that the incident is on Wednesday at around 9 pm. Shamsi stated that while he was leaving his building, he noticed an unknown man holding the hand of a seven-year-old girl and attempting to take her away. He also saw the same man trying to lure another minor girl from the garden area where children were playing.Sensing danger, Shamsi raised an alarm, prompting the accused to try to flee. With the help of two acquaintances present at the spot, he managed to apprehend the suspect and alerted other residents. The man was later identified as Sarjuprasad Keshulal Banwasi, a resident of Madhya Pradesh.Residents questioned the accused, but his responses were vague and unsatisfactory, increasing suspicion that he intended to abduct the children. The police were immediately informed and arrived at the scene, taking the accused into custody. “We have arrested and produced him before the court and sought his police custody. He is giving vague reasons and has denied that his intention was to kidnap” said an official.
