Pre-owned cars agent flees with vehicle in Hinjewadi | Pune News



Pune: The Hinjewadi police are searching for a pre-owned cars agent who allegedly cheated a driver by taking his vehicle on the pretext of buying it and then fleeing with it.The 26-year-old victim from Wagholi filed a complaint with the Hinjewadi police.An officer from Hinjewadi police said the victim had been trying to sell his car when the accused contacted him, claiming to be a pre-owned-car dealer who could help find a buyer.“The accused met the victim in Hinjewadi on Feb 27. He inspected the car and agreed to purchase it for Rs 6.40 lakh,” the officer said.The accused then told the victim that he wanted to take the car for a test drive before paying an advance. “However, the accused drove away with the car and did not return. The victim approached the police on Saturday and lodged a complaint after repeated attempts to contact the agent were unsuccessful,” he added. The police registered a case under section 316 (criminal breach of trust) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Assistant inspector Somnath Panchal is investigating the case.In a separate incident, a 32-year-old Hinjewadi resident also filed a complaint on Sunday, alleging that a Solapur resident who had rented his car in Jan for 15 days did not return it.The complainant had listed his vehicle with a self-drive car rental service, through which the accused booked the car. After waiting for two months and repeatedly following up without success, the victim approached the police.“We have the name and address of the accused. Our investigation is on,” an officer from the Hinjewadi police said.
