'Was pressuring me to marry her': 24-year-old DU student arrested for killing woman at north Delhi hotel

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old Delhi University student was arrested for allegedly killing a woman at a hotel in north Delhi’s Lahori Gate area on Thursday. Police said the accused claimed the woman had recently been coercing him to marry her. The accused, Abhishek Tiwari, a resident of Shahdara, is pursuing BCom through DU’s School of Open Learning and works as an accountant at a shop in Chandni Chowk. Police said they received information around 12.30am that a guest at a hotel was not responding despite repeated knocking. Hotel staff alerted beat officers after the room remained locked and there was no response. A police team reached the spot and forced open the door with the staff’s help. Inside, the woman, also an accountant, was found lying on the bed, partially covered with a blanket, with bloodstains on the bedding. Teams from the Crime Branch and the Forensic Science Laboratory examined the scene. Investigators found that the woman had checked into the hotel on Wednesday afternoon with a man who later left the premises. Police said Tiwari was arrested from Charkhi Dadri in Haryana. During questioning, he told police they had known each other for about two years and claimed that she had been pressuring him to marry her. Investigators said he called her to the hotel and allegedly strangled her before fleeing. Police said Tiwari was produced before a court and his custody would be sought.
