7 illegal Bangladeshis, including five trans people, apprehended

New Delhi: Delhi Police has apprehended seven illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, including five transgenders, from northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh on Monday. Among them is Suhan Khan, a deported Bangladeshi national who illegally re-entered India just weeks after being sent back in May.The individuals were caught following coordinated raids across multiple localities in Shalimar Bagh, during which police also seized mobile phones installed with the banned IMO app — allegedly used to communicate with their families in Bangladesh. The apprehension follows a district-wide special drive aimed at identifying illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, with a specific focus on areas under the Shalimar Bagh police station. “During the drive, the police team conducted surprise checks across main roads, residential colonies, traffic junctions, and inner streets. It was during this coordinated sweep that five transgender individuals were found begging at different spots in Shalimar Bagh,” DCP (North West) Bhisham Singh said. “Upon questioning and verification, it was confirmed that they were Bangladeshi nationals residing in India without valid visas, travel documents, or permits — thereby violating provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946. Later that night and in the early hours of June 30, two more individuals, a male and a female, were apprehended after similar verification revealed their illegal status,” DCP Singh added. Those apprehended include five transgender individuals identified as 31-year-old Shajeeb alias Ruposhy from Brambariya, 41-year-old Munmun from Narayanganj, 19-year-old Foisal alias Junaki from Jamalpur, 30-year-old Suhan Khan from Sylhet, and 40-year-old Farida Khatun from Brambariya; along with a woman, 50-year-old Tashlima from Faridpur, and a man, 26-year-old Kurban Ali, also from Faridpur, all originally from Bangladesh.
