Mumbai: Impact — a citizens movement for environment and civic issues raised concerns over the continued use of the Carter Road promenade in Bandra for cooking and food stalls, alleging that the activity posed safety risks and obstructed the public walking space.In a letter addressed to the chief executive officer of the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB), the group IMPACT said it filed a Right to Information (RTI) application in November 2025, seeking details about the proposed “Fish Food Plaza” at the promenade, and it was still awaiting a response.The group alleged that open-flame cooking continued to take place at the site, with oil cans stored in the area and chairs placed along the walkway for people to sit and eat, which it said blocked portions of the promenade used by walkers.In the letter, the group claimed that allowing cooking activities on a public promenade violated directions of the Supreme Court of India regarding cooking in public places.The residents also questioned why such a food plaza was permitted at Carter Road, asking whether similar arrangements existed at other prominent seafront promenades such as Marine Drive or Worli Sea Face.
