Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation secured the third position under the ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan 5.0′ (April 2024–March 2025), run by the State Environment and Climate Change Department in the Amrut category for cities with populations over 10 lakhs. Officials said the award was for planting nearly 82,000 trees, creating 99 green spaces, cracking down on plastic, boosting air and water quality, and rolling out energy-saving projects.“During the year-long campaign, the city also registered 729 heritage trees, recycled huge quantities of biomedical, e-waste and construction waste, and engaged citizens through hundreds of awareness programmes and e-pledges. Air quality monitoring, promotion of green crackers, flood and heat action plans, rainwater harvesting, sewage efficiency upgrades, and lake preservation added to Thane’s impressive environmental record,” stated an official.
