Pune: An 80-year-old woman suffered injuries on face and hands while trying to resist a chain snatcher in Charholi late on Tuesday night, when she and her daughter-in-law went for a walk after dinner. The snatcher fled with a part of a gold chain worth Rs30,000 from the woman. An officer from the Alandi police said the victim and her daughter-in-law (58) went for a walk near their house in Charholi around 9pm on Tuesday, when two men on a motorcycle stopped near them and one of them enquired about an address while the other one snatched the victim’s gold chain while the victim’s daughter-in-law spoke with him, the victim started walking. “The pillion rider on the motorcycle snatched the victim’s gold chain. When the victim tried to resist him, the man pushed her. In the melee, the woman’s gold chain broke,” the officer said.He said the elderly woman’s daughter-in-law tried to nab the duo, but they drove away. “The duo snatched a part of the gold chain worth Rs30,000. The woman found the remaining part of the chain on the road,” he said.The officer said the elderly woman fell on the road and suffered injuries on her face and hands. “We have registered a case of robbery. Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
