61 roads in northwest Delhi to be desilted

New Delhi: Drains along 61 roads in northwest Delhi are going to be desilted at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore. The maintenance exercise, which will begin in March, will cover major corridors, including TV Tower Road, Muni Maya Ram Marg, Outer Ring Road and Power House Road.A Public Works Department official said that the proposal was prepared well in advance this year. The objective is to ensure that stormwater channels remained clear before the onset of monsoon. Both neighbourhood drains and major stormwater carriers will be desilted. The project also includes replacing damaged or missing manhole covers.Arterial roads in northwest Delhi, particularly stretches such as Outer Ring Road, experience heavy traffic and commercial activity, leading to a faster build-up of waste in drainage lines. Clogged drains contributed to waterlogging and traffic disruptions during the rains in the past.
