New Delhi: A wholesale gold jewellery shop in Chandni Chowk was looted at gunpoint on Wednesday afternoon. The assailants allegedly fled with 12 to 15 gold chains worth around Rs 60 lakh. The incident took place around 1.34 pm at Nathi Lal Ashok Kumar Jewellers, a shop that has been operating in the area for nearly 30 years. According to the owner, Ashok Kumar Chaurasia, three armed men entered the store while his son and an employee were present inside.
“In CCTV, it can be seen that they committed the crime and got out of the shop in 14 seconds,” Chaurasia said. The footage from inside the store reportedly showed that one of them was holding a pistol, while two others were not wearing masks. The armed assailant allegedly struck an employee on the head with the butt of the pistol. A second robber then restrained Chaurasia’s son by covering his mouth and warning that they would shoot if he raised an alarm. Amid the chaos, the third assailant grabbed the gold jewellery displayed at the counter.
