Pune: The Swargate police are searching for a gang of seven youths who thrashed a 59-year-old resident of Maharshinagar for objecting to one of them for unnecessary honking.The incident happened on Feb 17 on the premises of a housing society in Maharshinagar. The victim, who is a fruit trader in Marketyard, sustained injuries to his face in the attack. After getting treatment, he approached the Swargate police and lodged a complaint.An officer from the Swargate police said that on Feb 17, the victim was in the parking lot of his building when a youth driving a motorcycle stopped at the main gate around 4.30pm and started honking. “The complainant requested him not to honk unnecessarily and disturb the residents. The youth told him that he was calling his friend and started honking again,” the officer said.He said that the victim then went towards him and requested him again, following which the youth abused him and drove away. After some time, he returned with his six accomplices. They started beating him with their hands. The main accused assaulted the victim with a cricket bat. “They drove away when other residents of the society rushed to the victim’s help,” he said.A case under sections 115, 118 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 189, and 190 (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against the accused. “Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
