Dana Eden, 52, an Israeli television producer and co-creator of the Apple TV+ series ‘Tehran,’ was found dead in her hotel room in Athens on Sunday, February 15.

Dana Eden, 52, an Israeli television producer and co-creator of the Apple TV+ series ‘Tehran,’ was found dead in her hotel room in Athens on Sunday, February 15. She had been in the Greek capital since February 4 to oversee filming of the show’s fourth season.
According to Reuters, her brother discovered her body after she stopped responding to messages. Greek media outlets including Tovima, Documento, and Protothema, reported that bruising was found on her neck and limbs, and that pills were discovered in the room. Greek authorities are investigating the possibility of suicide, with Athens police having issued an autopsy order and collected security camera footage along with statements from hotel staff.
The production company Dana and Shula Productions released a statement addressing social media speculation about the cause of death, according to The Times of Israel. “The production company wants to make it clear that the rumours of the death being criminal or nationalistic are not true and baseless,” the statement read. “We call on the media and the public not to publish unfounded theories and to act with responsibility and sensitivity.” The Israeli embassy in Athens confirmed that it is in contact with Eden’s family and is providing assistance.
The investigation is ongoing. A forensic pathologist has been appointed to determine the precise cause of death, and police said all possible lines of inquiry remain under review.
Eden co-founded Dana and Shula Productions 18 years ago alongside producer Shula Spiegel. Together, they built one of Israel’s most recognized production companies. Their most prominent project, “Tehran,” follows a Mossad agent who infiltrates Iran under a false identity in an attempt to dismantle the country’s nuclear program. The show stars Niv Sultan and has featured international names including Glenn Close in its second season and Hugh Laurie in its third. The series airs on Israel’s public broadcaster Kan and internationally on Apple TV+, with its third season having premiered last month. The fourth season was being filmed in Athens, a city that has served as a stand-in for Tehran since the show’s first season.
The show won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series in November 2021. At the ceremony in New York, Eden said: “It gives hope for the future, that Israelis and Iranians will be able to walk together in Jerusalem and in Tehran as friends and not as enemies.”
Dana and Shula Productions, mourning Eden’s death, describing her as a gifted creator with an international reputation who had worked in the industry for over 30 years. In addition to ‘Tehran,’ Eden produced several other series including ‘Shakshouka,’ ‘Michael,’ and ‘Magpie, amongst others.
The Times of Israel quoted Kan, the Israeli public broadcaster, saying in a statement, “Dana was among the senior figures in Israel’s television industry and played a central role in creating and leading some of the corporation’s most prominent and influential productions.”
Eden was born in September 1973 and studied at the Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts. She joined her family’s production company, Dana Productions, in 1996 and produced her first series the following year. She later took over management of the company after her father, founder Yoram Levy, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The cause of death has not been officially confirmed. Authorities are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination.
