35-year-old commuter held for molesting teen on train

Mumbai: A 35-year-old man was arrested by Govt Railway Police (GRP) for allegedly molesting a minor repeatedly on a Karjat-bound local train recently. The girl had slapped the accused following which her parents and co-travellers handed him to the police at Dombivli station.The incident occurred on Feb 10. The 14-year-old victim had gone to south Mumbai with her parents and sibling to celebrate her father’s birthday. Late that day, the family boarded a Karjat-bound fast local to head home. They were occupying seats in the general compartment.Between 9.45 pm and 10.45 pm, the accused boarded the same compartment at Kurla station. He stood in the space close to the girl and touched her inappropriately a couple of times. The girl stared at him angrily but did not complain to anyone.Just before the train was to reach Dombivli station, the family got up from their seats and started moving towards the passage near the exit. The accused stood behind the victim and touched her inappropriately once again. This time, the victim slapped him and complained to her parents that she had been molested repeatedly in the coach since Kurla station. Her parents and co-travellers caught hold of the accused and handed him to the police at Dombivali station.As the offence had started at Kurla, his custody was handed over to Kurla GRP. He has been identified as Mohammad Ayub Ansari. He has been booked under provisions of Pocso Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
