Pune: The city police have received over 1.36 lakh applications in response to their recruitment drive for various positions, including police constables, drivers, and prison guards.The recruitment process is scheduled to begin on Feb 16 and will be conducted simultaneously at the Shivajinagar Police Headquarters ground and the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) ground in Wanowrie.Speaking on Wednesday evening, joint commissioner of police Ranjan Kumar Sharma provided a breakdown of the numbers. “We have 1,700 vacancies for the post of police constables, for which we received over 88,000 applications. For the 105 driver vacancies, the response was even more intense, with over 38,000 candidates applying,” he said.In addition to the city police force, the department is managing the recruitment of 130 prison guards, which drew approximately 10,000 applications. The joint CP highlighted the inclusivity of this year’s drive, mentioning that eight applications were received from third-gender candidates.The department is aiming for a swift selection process. “We intend to complete both the physical and written examinations within a month. Once the final selection is made, the candidates will be immediately dispatched to police training facilities,” Sharma added.
