New Delhi: Delhi Police has launched a probe into the role of a café in east Delhi’s Anand Vihar over its alleged involvement in a dating scam in which victims were lured to the establishment and then overcharged and extorted.Police have written to MCD officials seeking the revocation of the cafe’s health trade licence and sealing of the premises.According to police, multiple complaints were received alleging inflated billing for food items. In one such case, a man was allegedly assaulted at the cafe after meeting a woman through a dating application who asked him to meet her there. Upon arrival, the victim was allegedly presented with an exorbitant bill and attacked when he attempted to leave without paying.The victim contacted a friend, who rushed to the spot and allegedly saw him being assaulted by a group of three to four people demanding money. When the friend intervened, he too was allegedly abused and beaten. The victims later dialled the emergency helpline.A senior police officer said three cases were registered against the café owner. Action is being taken against the owner and the women who allegedly induced customers to visit the café there. TNN
