Rape, Pocso convict who jumped bail in 2022 held by Delhi crime branch

New Delhi: A 33-year-old man convicted of rape and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, who had jumped interim bail in 2022, has been arrested by Delhi Police crime branch, officials said on Tuesday. Police said the accused had sexually assaulted the daughter of his domestic worker at his home in southwest Delhi’s Bindapur in 2016. In 2022, he allegedly assaulted his friend’s wife in the same locality. Both cases were registered at Bindapur police station. He was convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. However, he was granted 28 days’ interim bail in 2022 on medical grounds related to his wife’s health. After the bail period ended, he failed to surrender and went absconding. “The team received a tip-off that the man, who was wanted in a rape and Pocso case and had jumped interim bail, would be visiting the Toll Road, near Ghamroj Toll Plaza, in Gurgaon,” DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora said. A trap was laid and the accused was arrested from the spot. Police said he had been working at a call centre before his arrest.
