33 Delhi Police officers & 31CBI officers awarded medals

New Delhi: Thirty-three Delhi Police officers and 31 CBI officers, including a joint director who led the probe into the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, received medals in recognition of their bravery and exemplary service on the occasion of Republic Day. Among CBI officers, six received the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, while 25 were awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Among the awardees of the President’s medal was joint director Chandrasekar Venupillai, who supervised the investigation into the R G Kar case, which led to the conviction of the main accused within months of filing a chargesheet.Other recipients were Amit Srivastava, superintendent of police; Mukesh Sharma, additional SP; Pramod Kumar Yati, sub-inspector; Chaman Lal, assistant sub-inspector; and Ramu Golla, head constable. The police medal was conferred on 2007-batch IPS officer Venkata Subba Reddy Chinnakondu, joint director of CBI, along with his batchmate, Sadanand Shankarrao Date, who transitioned from DIG in the agency to inspector general. Other CBI recipients included Manmohan Sharma (deputy legal advisor) and additional SPs Baidyanath Samal and Kailash Sahu. In addition, eight deputy superintendents of police, one inspector, one programmer, one office superintendent, one assistant sub-inspector, five head constables and 3 constables were also honoured. Among Delhi Police personnel, 14 received the Medal for Gallantry, two got the President’s medal and 17 were awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service.Joint CP (transport) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere received the Medal for Meritorious Service for leading institutional reforms focused on modernisation, capacity building and improved efficiency. His community outreach strengthened police-citizen collaboration, enhancing intelligence and cooperation. As DCP of north-west and south-west districts of Delhi, he managed complex law and order situations and supervised sensitive investigations. Inspector Krishan Kumar of crime branch received the gallantry medal. Along with his team, he apprehended Vicky alias Kartoos, a notorious arms supplier involved in extortion cases in Dwarka North and Bindapur and a murder case in Rajasthan.
