DMRC puts up barricading and safety lights at construction sites

New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Sunday said nearly 20km of barricading have been put up across its construction sites in the city, along with 17km of blinkers and LED lights.Over 270 traffic marshals have been deployed at these locations to ensure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles along metro construction sites, DMRC said. Road studs have been put on the roads to slow down traffic as it approaches vulnerable traffic points near construction sites. Warning signage indicating that work was in progress or that a diversion was ahead has also been installed.

“During the winter, visibility goes down due to heavy fog during the day and night. To counter this, DMRC’s safety teams take several additional measures. LED light ropes and blinkers are installed on the barricades. In addition, fog lights are installed atop the barricades. Reflective tape is also put on the helmets of the workers, in addition to their high-visibility jackets,” said Anuj Dayal, principal executive director, corporate communications, DMRC.To ensure the safety and sturdiness of the barricades, especially during the monsoon season or periods with high winds, they were designed as bottom-heavy, with provision for nailing to the ground. “With the help of nuts and bolts, each barricade is also tied to the other. Therefore, it may be noticed that Delhi Metro’s barricades generally do not move or topple even in adverse weather conditions,” said Dayal.
