New flyover on Outer Ring Road to streamline traffic in NW Delhi

New Delhi: To ease congestion and streamline traffic in northwest Delhi, govt has decided to construct a flyover on Outer Ring Road, connecting the IFC supplementary drain near Keshopur Depot to Haiderpur — one of the city’s most congested corridors. The move is likely to bring major relief to commuters in Keshopur, Haiderpur, Punjabi Bagh, Pitampura, Shalimar Bagh and Rohini.PWD minister Parvesh Verma said the project was part of govt’s resolution to permanently solve the city’s traffic woes. “Under the leadership of chief minister Rekha Gupta, our govt is committed to properly plan infrastructure. This flyover will provide lasting relief to areas that have faced heavy traffic pressure for years,” he added. An official said the project, which is likely to be ready by 2028, would ease persistent bottlenecks on Outer Ring Road, improve inter-district connectivity and ensure smoother movement for public transport, commercial vehicles and emergency services, besides reducing overall travel time for lakhs of commuters. “These areas witness chronic traffic congestion during peak hours,” the official said.Public Works Department has already approved consultancy services for a detailed feasibility study. The study will assess traffic volume, engineering design, environmental impact and long-term sustainability to ensure that the flyover is future-ready and executed efficiently. The study will also align the project with Delhi’s long-term traffic management and urban development goals.Verma said all major projects on Outer Ring Road would be implemented with “technical rigour, transparency and strict timelines, moving away from piecemeal or temporary measures”.
