New Delhi: An 18-year-old domestic help has been arrested for allegedly burgling the house of a furniture businessman, her former employer, in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh. Police said over Rs 5 lakh in cash was stolen, of which Rs 2.7 lakh has been recovered. The accused, identified as Laxmi, a resident of Mangolpuri, had quit her job at the house around eight months ago. Investigators said she returned last week when the family was away attending a wedding and carried out the burglary alone. A PCR call was received at Punjabi Bagh police station on Thursday, following which the complainant alleged that Rs 5.6 lakh had been stolen. An FIR was registered the next day under Sections 305 (theft in a dwelling house) and 331 (house trespass) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. “CCTV footage from more than 25 cameras was analysed along with local intelligence,” said DCP (west) Darade Sharad Bhaskar, adding, “Based on footage and inputs, the accused was traced and arrested. The woman has no previous criminal record.”According to investigators, Laxmi was familiar with the layout of the house and knew where valuables were kept. “She returned after learning the family was away for a wedding and jumped over a wall to enter the premises,” said an officer, adding that she broke the lock to gain entry.
