Man shot dead by friend, body dumped in nullah near Donje village

Pune: A 24-year-old man was shot dead in his friend’s house late on Tuesday night, and later his body was dumped in a nullah near Donje village. The Pune Rural police identified the deceased as Vishal Chavan of Kolhewadi in Khadakwasla. The police detained one of the six accused and handed over the case to the Nanded City police for further investigation. The Nanded City police arrested three more accused in connection with the murder.

Senior police inspector Vaishali Patil of the Haveli police told TOI that on Wednesday, the body of an unknown man was found in the nullah. “To ascertain the victim’s identity, we shared the photographs on different social media platforms. Chavan’s relatives identified him by a tattoo on his hand,” Patil said.She said the post-mortem report confirmed that Chavan died due to a gunshot. His parents told the police that on Tuesday night, Chavan went to his friend’s house for dinner. His six friends were at the house. “His parents contacted him around 11.30pm on Tuesday. After that, he did not respond to their calls,” she said.Patil said the police then swung into action and took one of them into custody. During questioning, the accused revealed that Chavan and his friend got into heated arguments over some issue. Later, it was settled. “His friend claimed that, to threaten Chavan, one of them took out a country-made pistol and the bullet fired,” Patil said.The officer said that Chavan died on the spot as the bullet hit his head. The terrified friends then dumped the body into the nullah at Donje. “The case and the accused were transferred to the Nanded City police for further investigations,” the officer said.An officer from the Pune police said that the Nanded City police arrested three more accused. “Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
