Palghar: A visit to relatives on Makar Sankranti festival ended in tragedy for a father and his teen daughter on Wednesday as they drowned in a water-filled quarry in Virar area while trying to save each other, police said. Vinayak Sitam entered the water for a swim but found himself in distress. Noticing that he was drowning, as he couldn’t gauge the depth, the daughter bravely jumped in to rescue him, but could not make it. Locals called the fire brigade who reached the spot to retrieve the dead bodies. After the fire brigade retrieved the dead bodies, the Virar cops registered a case of accidental death.
