New Delhi: Police have launched an investigation after a Mercedes car was set ablaze outside its owner’s residence in Southwest Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave. The cops have also taken note of a politician’s daughter’s claims that the incident was intended to harm her and her family.The incident occurred on Jan 7, when an unknown person reportedly started a fire near the vehicle’s left-side mirror around 1 am. The flames were discovered the next morning, and local residents, along with fire officials, managed to douse the fire, police said.A case was registered under section 326 (mischief by injury, inundation, fire) of BNS. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area and questioning neighbours to identify the suspect.The daughter of a local politician claimed on social media that that the vehicle belonged to her. However, Delhi Police clarified that the vehicle belonged to someone else. “We are searching for the suspect. Once the person is caught, we will be able to determine the motive,” police said.
