Five Bangladeshi nationals were held for overstaying visas

New Delhi: Five Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended in outer Delhi in the first week of 2026. Police said the district’s foreigner cell checked around 100 people during the week. The team had received a tip-off about foreign nationals overstaying their visas in the area. These individuals were attempting to obtain visas for other countries despite having no valid Indian travel documents.

“Sensing police surveillance, the suspects tried to flee to avoid verification. The team stepped up checks at transit points, including border areas and railway stations, to prevent their escape,” said DCP (outer) Sachin Sharma.During checking near the Mangolpuri railway line, police team spotted five people with luggage. They tried to disperse but were caught. Expired passports and visas were found in their possession, police said. They were identified as Rashedullah Chowdhury (50), Mohammad Zakir Hussain (37), Mohebbul Islam (36), Mohammad Moinuddin (35) and Hritik Raj Banik (22), all from Bangladesh.Deportation proceedings have been initiated in coordination with the FRRO.
