Cash, gold jewellery worth Rs 68 lakh stolen from grocer’s home in Rajgurunagar

Pune: Unindentified menbroke into the house of a grocery store owner in Rajgurunagar in Khed taluka and made off with cash and gold jewellery, collectively worth Rs 68 lakh, in the early hours of Jan 3when the family was away in Akkalkot in Solapur district.The grocery shopowner (59) from Pabal Road in Rajgurunagar lodged a complaint with the Khed police. A case of burglary was registered on Sunday.An officer from the Khed police said the complainant and his brother ran the grocery store in Rajgurunagar and lived in a joint family.“The entire family went to Akkalkot on Jan 2. The complainant’s neighbour called him the next day and informed him that the locks on his housewere broken.The family returned that night and found that the locks of the cupboards were broken andeverything was scattered on the floor,” the officer said.The complainant stated that thieves stole Rs 9.5 lakh cash, gold and silver jewellery, and other articles collectively worth Rs 68 lakh from the house. “We are checking CCTV footage in the area to ascertain the identity of the thieves,” the officer said.
