BMC denies junking railings at Mumbai’s Bandra Fort garden as selfie point work begins

Mumbai: Regular walkers and joggers at the Bandra (West) Fort garden were surprised to see work being carried out in the space barely a year after it was inaugurated.Long-time Bandra resident Naresh Fernandes, in a post on social media X, said, “November 2024, Bandra fort beautification project inaugurated at a cost of Rs 17 crore. December 31, 2025, railings being junked.“However, BMC denied the charge and said that the development of a selfie point was being carried out at the spot by the Mumbai Maritime Board (MMB), and that the railings were not new but were put up long back by the MMB.Last year, the much-popular Bandra Bandstand Fort garden was inaugurated on October 7, after nearly two years of closure, but locals were divided over its new avatar. The rocky area, which was uneven, was made more accessible, while the amphitheatre was also revamped to make it more usable to the public. The BMC spent Rs 18 crore on its revamp. While some celebrated the reopening, others expressed concern over the changes to the once lush green space, claiming it lost much of its natural charm.
