Police trace and recover 515 missing mobile phones using CEIR portal | Delhi News

New Delhi: New Delhi District Police traced and recovered hundreds of missing and lost mobile phones over the past 9 months by leveraging technology-driven policing tools. Since April 2025, district police teams successfully tracked down 515 missing or lost mobile phones using Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. Of these, 399 devices were already returned to their rightful owners, while the remaining phones are in the process of being handed over after due verification.“By combining technical surveillance with data from the CEIR portal, police teams were able to trace devices not only within Delhi but also across neighbouring states,” DCP (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla said.To ensure a smooth and transparent process, the police organised mobile phone return events on multiple occasions. “On May 17, as many as 76 recovered phones were returned to owners. This was followed by a large-scale handover on Dec 18, when 276 devices were restored, and another event on Dec 30, during which 47 mobile phones were returned,” DCP Mahla added.Earlier on Tuesday, under Ops Vishwas, the southern range of Delhi Police returned over 1,000 recovered mobile phones at a public ceremony in south Delhi. More than 70 police teams were deployed for the recovery drive, alongside cyber safety outreach and awareness on digital frauds.
