Continuing Tradition 2025 honours Guru Shovana Narayan and musical legends

ASAVARI hosted Continuing Tradition 2025 at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The evening celebrated the musical legacies of the late Pandit Jwala Prasad and Pandit Madho Prasad, alongside more than fifty years of Kathak instruction by Padma Shri Guru Shovana Narayan. It also marked the release of her biography, I Am A Fleeting Moment in Time, authored by Maya Parijat. The event honoured the enduring influence of Pandit Jwala Prasad and Pandit Madho Prasad, whose compositions have shaped generations of classical performers and continue to inspire Guruji’s choreographies. The evening also reflected on Guru Shovana Narayan’s remarkable journey as a performer, choreographer, scholar, researcher, and teacher, highlighting her contributions to Kathak and her guidance of countless disciples. Distinguished guests included Shri Muzaffar Ali, filmmaker and fashion designer; Ambassador K. Nandini Singla, DG of ICCR; Shri K Satish Nambudiripad, DG of Doordarshan; and Prof. KG Suresh, Director of IHC. Vinita Dawra Nangia led a panel discussion exploring Guruji’s creative and personal journey. The programme began with the release of the biography, followed by the panel discussion. The second half featured the sixth edition of Continuing Tradition, with senior disciples performing select compositions of Pandit Jwala Prasad and Pandit Madho Prasad as a tribute to the masters. This evening also concluded the yearlong celebration of Guruji’s seventy-fifth year. Reflecting on the event, Guru Shovana Narayan said, “This evening is a heartfelt offering to the musical visionaries who shaped my artistic path and to my disciples whose sincerity and commitment keep the flame of tradition alive.” Continuing Tradition 2025 celebrated the timelessness of Kathak, the legacy of its maestros, and the enduring bond between Guru and disciples.
