Delhi prepares for New Year 2026: Special traffic rules, road diversions, parking arrangements announced- Check all details

NEW DELHI: The New Year’s Eve in Delhi will be celebrated with great enthusiasm, with large crowds expected at Connaught Place to ring in 2026. The Delhi Traffic Police has made special arrangements for the areas around Connaught Place to manage the anticipated surge in holiday traffic. Special road diversions and parking restrictions will be in effect across Delhi. Key congestion hotspots have been identified, and additional personnel have been deployed to ensure smooth movement near popular markets and celebration venues, according to news agency ANI. The following restrictions will be in place from 7pm on 31st December 2025 in the Connaught Place area until the conclusion of New Year celebrations. These apply to all private and public transport vehicles: No vehicle will be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond:

  • R/A Mandi House
  • R/A Bengali Market
  • North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover
  • Minto Road – Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing
  • Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk (New Delhi Railway Station)
  • R.K. Ashram Marg – Chitragupta Marg Crossing
  • R/A Gole Market
  • R/A G.P.O., New Delhi
  • Patel Chowk
  • Kasturba Gandhi Road – Ferozeshah Road Crossing
  • Jai Singh Road – Bangla Sahib Lane
  • R/A Windsor Place

No vehicular traffic will be allowed in the inner, middle, or outer circle of Connaught Place except for vehicles carrying valid passes. Parking Arrangements near Connaught Place: Motorists can park at the following locations:

  • Near Gole Dak Khana on Kali Bari Marg, Pt. Pant Marg, Bhai Veer Singh Marg
  • Near Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road, behind AIR
  • Near Mandi House on Copernicus Marg up to Baroda House
  • Near Minto Road on D.D. Upadhyaya Marg and Press Road area
  • Near Panchkuian Road on R.K. Ashram Marg, Chitragupta Road & Basant Road towards Pahar Ganj
  • Near K.G. Marg-Ferozeshah Road Crossing on Copernicus Lane and K.G. Marg towards C-Hexagon
  • Near R/A Bengali Market on Babar Road and Tansen Marg
  • Near Windsor Place, Rajender Prasad Raisina Road
  • Near Gole Market at Peshwa Road, Service Road along Bhai Veer Singh Marg and R.K. Ashram Road
  • Near R/A Buta Singh on Jantar Mantar Road, Raisina Road

Limited parking will be available near Connaught Place on a first-come, first-served basis. Unauthorized vehicles will be towed away and prosecuted. Access to New Delhi Railway Station (From South): Motorists can use:

  • Ram Manohar Lohiya Park Street → Mandir Marg → Rani Jhansi Road → R/A Jhande Walan → Desh Bandhu Gupta Road
  • R/A GPO → Kali Bari Marg → Mandir Marg → Rani Jhansi Road → R/A Jhande Walan → Desh Bandhu Gupta Road
  • R/A Windsor Place → Ferozeshah Road → Mandi House → ‘W’ Point → ‘A’ Point → DDU Marg → Bhav Bhuti Marg

Entry from Connaught Place via Chelmsford Road will be prohibited. Motorists are advised to use the Second Entry Gate on the Ajmeri Gate side, reaching the station via Pahar Ganj-Shiela Cinema or Ajmeri Gate → J.L.N. Marg, via B.S.Z. Marg → Delhi Gate → J.L.N. Marg. Old Delhi Railway Station is not affected. Suggested Routes:

  • North-South movement: Ring Road from ISBT to Ashram or via Delhi Gate → Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg → Mathura Road to Ashram and vice versa via ISBT, Rani Jhansi Marg, Panchkuian Road, Mandir Marg, Park Street, Mother Teresa Crescent Road, or via Rani Jhansi Marg, Panchkuian Road, Hanuman Murti, Ring Road.
  • East-West movement: Ring Road → Bhairon Road → Mathura Road → Subramaniam Bharti Marg → Mother Teresa Crescent → R/A R.M.L → Park Street → Shankar Road.

New Year’s Eve Traffic at India Gate: Delhi Traffic Police has prepared elaborate traffic arrangements at and around India Gate for both pedestrian and vehicular movement. During heavy pedestrian movement, vehicles may not be allowed through C-Hexagon and India Gate areas and will be diverted from:

  • Q-Point
  • R/A MLNP
  • R/A Sunheri Masjid
  • R/A Mar-Janpath
  • Rajpath Rafi Marg
  • R/A Windsor Place
  • R/A Rajendra Prasad Road – Janpath
  • K.G. Marg – Ferozeshah Road
  • R/A Mandi House
  • W-Point
  • Mathura Road – Purana Qila Road
  • Mathura Road – Sher Shah Road
  • SBM – Zakir Hussain Marg
  • SBM – Pandara Road

Visitors are advised to use public transport due to limited parking near India Gate. Large gatherings are expected at Delhi Zoo, which may cause congestion on Mathura Road. Motorists are advised to avoid Bhairon Road/Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan. Commuters are requested to avoid the above roads where possible, use public transport, and plan their journeys to ISBT, railway stations, and airports with sufficient time. The public is urged to be patient, follow traffic rules, obey directions of deployed personnel, and stay updated through the Delhi Traffic Police website.
