Over 5,000 poll aspirants collect nomination forms on first day in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad | Pune News



Pune: A total of 5,098 nomination forms were collected by poll aspirants across Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits on the first day of form distribution and acceptance ahead of the civic elections. As many as 2,886 nomination forms were collected in PMC, while 2,212 forms were collected in PCMC areas on Tuesday, informed officials of the election department.

Civic officials, however, said not a single nomination was formally filed on the first day.PMC has set up 15 election offices across its 41 wards to facilitate the process, while the PCMC established eight election offices at different locations across 32 wards for the distribution and acceptance of nomination forms.A senior PCMC official said ward numbers 9, 19, and 30 witnessed the highest response, with over 100 aspirants collecting nomination forms in each of these wards. The response in other wards remained comparatively low, with fewer than 100 forms collected on the first day.As per the schedule announced by the state election commission, nomination filing will continue until Dec 30, except on Dec 25 and 28, when the process will remain suspended due to holidays. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on Dec 31, and candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until Jan 2.Political parties are yet to finalise their candidates, and sources said most aspirants are expected to formally file their nominations only after official declarations are made.
