NEW DELHI: Under fire over her intemperate language targeted at an African national, BJP councillor Renu Chaudhary from Patparganj apologised on Tuesday, saying she had no intention of hurting anyone’s sentiments. The apology came after she was summoned by Delhi BJP earlier in the day.“The MCD park is meant for children to play and receive coaching. We will provide whatever facilities are needed there,” Chaudhary said in a video, adding, “If anyone’s sentiments were hurt by my language, I apologise. I hope the children continue to play in the park.” A video showing Chaudhary threatening the football coach to learn Hindi within a month or leave Delhi had sparked outrage online. The incident drew widespread criticism. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said, “Sports has no language, and the manner in which our councillor behaved was not appropriate. She was made to understand that her conduct was wrong. She expressed regret, apologised, and also uploaded an apology video on social media.” “I have asked the local unit to meet the coach and the children, and assess what facilities can be provided to them,” he added.
