New Delhi: A Dwarka court on Thursday convicted Haryana gangster Vikas Lagarpuria and his associate Dhirpal, alias Kana, under Section 3 of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for engaging in organised criminal activities. The court noted that Lagarpuria, known as the leader of the notorious ‘Vikas Lagarpuria’ gang, was involved in at least 18 criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, extortion, robbery, house trespass and criminal intimidation, registered across Delhi and Haryana. He was booked in 2012 at the Chhawla police station. “The activities of Lagarpuria indicate that he formed an organised crime syndicate and, with his associates, accumulated illegal wealth through violence, coercion, criminal force and other unlawful means,” the court order stated. Witnesses in cases had been reluctant to testify. tnn
