Scanty rain in city; Tamhini Ghat records 80mm | Pune News



Pune: Light rain continued in the ghat areas of Pune district while the city experienced scanty showers on Sunday night and Monday.After a couple of spells of heavy showers, Tamhini and Lonavla Ghats recorded 80mm and 27mm rain respectively in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Monday. In rural Pune, Girivan registered 44mm and Kurvande recorded 32.5mm, while Nimgiri, Bhor and Talegaon, saw 19 mm, 13mm and 3.5 mm respectively during this period. These locations had a single-digit rainfall in the 24 hours until 8.30am on Sunday.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain, especially in the ghat sections, for Tuesday. “Generally cloudy sky, light rain very likely,” stated the forecast. Between 8.30am on Sunday and 5.30pm on Monday, the rainfall figures recorded in the city are Shivajinagar (4.2mm), Pashan (4.6mm), Lohegaon (1.4mm), Chnchwad (12mm), Lavale (9.5mm), Magarpatta (0.5mm), Koregaon Park (2mm), and NDA (4.6mm). IMD has issued no warning of heavy rain for the city for Tuesday.Residents have demanded that the civic administration use the lull to complete the pending works. “The issue of pothole-ridden roads can be resolved during this period. A good quality material can be used for repairs,” Mandar Gokhale from Paud Road said.Shivajinagar resident Deven Shah said private complaints like pruning of trees are being raised across the civic areas. “But officials delay sending the squads, citing heavy showers or claiming that their workers are busy dealing with mishaps like uprooting of trees caused by rain. PMC should use the time of no rainfall activity to address these private complaints.”IMD has forecast isolated heavy rain over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat between June 23 and 29 and very heavy rain over Konkan on June 24. Besides, light/moderate rain is likely at most/many places over Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada from June 23 to 29.
