Pune: The Sant Tukaramnagar police on Sunday registered a case against a man and his son from Chikhali on the charge of duping nine people of Rs20 lakh after promising to help them obtain homes at cheaper rates in govt and private schemes. The duo took money from the victims between July last year and Nov this year. When the victims did not receive the flats or their money, they approached the police and lodged a complaint. A 44-year-old resident of Chikhali lodged a complaint with the police.
An officer from the Sant Tukaramnagar police said that the complainant came into contact with the accused through an acquaintance. The latter told the victim that he would have to pay Rs 2.20 lakh as an advance to the person, and in return, the latter would give him a cheque for that amount and make an agreement. “The victim and eight others collectively gave Rs 20 lakh to the accused and his son,” the officer said.He said that when the victim and others did not receive the flats, they started pursuing the father-and-son duo for their money. “When they found that a cheating case was already registered against the duo with the Pimpri police, the victim approached the Sant Tukaramnagar police and lodged a complaint,” he said.
