Pune: The Ambegaon police arrested a 31-year-old kindergarten teacher’s husband (35), his mother and his sister on charges of abetting the teacher’s death by suicide. As of now, all the arrested three are lodged in the Yerawada jail under judicial custody following the end of their initial custodial remand, senior inspector Sharad Zine of Ambegaon police said.The woman, along with her six-year-old son, jumped off the terrace of their five-storied building in a society at Ambegaon Pathar, where the couple had rented a flat, resulting in the death of both on June 18. A note purportedly written by the deceased teacher, using a lipstick, blamed the sister-in-law for harassment, police said.Zine told TOI, “We arrested the husband and the two in-laws based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother (24) from Khamgaon in Buldhana alleging that his sister was being subjected to physical and mental torture ever since her marriage in 2018. Her husband works with a bank.”Zine cited the complaint and said, “The victim’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law would frequently harass her over various domestic issues, like cooking, dressing, and others and would pass objectionable comments on her. They also harassed her for Rs 50,000. She then decided to shift to Pune so that she could avoid harassment by her in-laws. However, the mother-in-law and sister-in-law would visit the couple at regular intervals and continued with their harassment. Driven to despair, the woman decided to end her life along with that of her son’s.”Police have registered a case for offences punishable under sections 108 (abetment of suicide), 351 (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult), and 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of BNS.
