Trip to Narayanpur temple turns tragic for 3 of family from Dhayari Phata, Chikhali kid

Pune: A trip to the Narayanpur temple turned tragic for five people, including three members of a family, from Dhayari Phata travelling in the car sandwiched between two trucks in Thursday evening’s accident on the Navale Bridge stretch.Police said three members of the family, Dattatray Dabhade (58), his wife Shanta (54) and daughter Swati Santosh Nawalkar (37) from Dhayari Phata were killed. Mokshita Hemkumar Reddy (3) from Chikhali, daughter of a family friend of Dabhade family, and their driver Dhananjay Kumar Koli (30), also a close acquaintance of Dabhades, were in the car that ultimately caught fire. Two other bodies brought to Sassoon General Hospital were of the driver and the cleaner of the container involved in the accident. Another deceased was identified as Rohit Dnyaneshwar Kadam (25), a resident of Satara district. The victims from Dhayari Phata were returning home from Narayanpur in the ill-fated car. All five of them died on the spot.Additional commissioner of police Pankaj Deshmukh told TOI, “Seven bodies — four men, two women and a minor child — were brought to Sassoon General Hospital. Another body is in a different hospital. Five of the victims were in the same car. The other bodies brought to Sassoon were of a truck driver and helper.”Five of the injured people were rushed to Sassoon General Hospital. “None of them is critical. They were in shock when they arrived. All of them are conscious and stable,” said Sassoon hospital’s dean Dr Eknath Pawar. According to the hospital’s medico-legal case notes, Dattaram Palande (60), who was on a two-wheeler, suffered abrasions on his left foot. Nine-year-old Saima Sayyed, a passenger in the bus involved in the crash, suffered a crush injury with avulsion — a type of wound where skin and tissue are torn away, on her left foot.Another bus passenger, Julekha Sayyed (34), suffered a head injury with trauma to the right side of her chest. A 36-year-old biker, Pawan Asone, was treated for a laceration over his chin. Her husband, Amjad, was also injured. Amir Mulani, a relative of injured Sayyeds, said, “Sayyed was on her way back home with the family after attending a funeral when the accident occurred.”
