Delhi car blast: Forensic audit ordered at Al-Falah University, ED and NIA probe money trail

After the alarming car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi, government officials have mandated a comprehensive forensic audit of Al-Falah University’s financial and operational records. Institutions monitoring financial transactions have started probing into the university’s funding channels.

NEW DELHI: The govt has ordered a forensic audit of all records of Al-Falah University, currently in the eye of the storm because the Delhi car bomber and his other terror aides had been working there as doctors while also secretly running a Jaish module.

In addition, the Enforcement Directorate and other financial investigative agencies have been asked to probe the money trail of the Faridabad-based institution, as per sources.

The decision to scour the records and trace the funding of the university was taken at a review meeting chaired by home minister Amit Shah here on Thursday to take stock of the progress of investigation into the Nov 10 blast near Red Fort. The car blast, triggered by Dr Umar Un Nabi, who was in the driver’s seat, claimed 13 lives and injured many others. “An order has been issued to carry out a forensic audit of all records of Al-Falah University. ED and other financial agencies were also asked by the govt to check the money trail of Al-Falah University,” a source said. Meanwhile, access to the university’s website – which listed Dr Umar Un Nabi and another Kashmiri, Dr Nisar ul Hassan, who was sacked by J&K govt in 2023 over his alleged terror links, as part of department of general medicine at Al-Falah School of Medical Science and Research Centre – was restricted on Thursday. The Al-Falah University at Dhauj in Haryana’s Faridabad district is a private institution that also houses a hospital on its campus. At least four doctors on its rolls have been identified as part of the Jaish terror module that was amassing explosives and bomb-making material, possibly to carry out pan-India attacks. While Dr Umar UnNabi was killed in the blast, Dr Muzammil, Dr Adeel and Dr Shaheen were arrested. Dr Hassan also is being questioned by NIA, which is investigating the case. The university, in a statement on Wednesday, had said it was extending full cooperation to the investigating authorities to enable them to arrive at logical and fair conclusions on the vital matter pertaining to national security.
