New Delhi: In an effort to digitalise school operations and keep parents regularly informed about their children’s academic progress, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) plans to launch dedicated websites for all its 1,512 schools. In the first phase, the civic body on Friday rolled out websites for 15 schools and directed principals of the other centres to develop websites within the next two months. Through the ‘School Web App’, parents and students will be able to access information on timetables, homework, notes, attendance and results.Lauding MCD for a “remarkable effort despite limited resources”, Delhi govt education minister Ashish Sood, while unveiling the platform at the MCD Civic Centre, said: “This step will prove to be a milestone Digital India and Viksit Bharat 2047. Now, parents will not have to search for information; it will reach them directly. This is the true essence of digital empowerment, in line with the spirit of the National Education Policy, 2020.“According to MCD officials, the move aims to enhance transparency, digital integration and communication between schools and parents. Teachers will upload day-wise lesson plans, details of attendance, marks, performance, homework, birthdays of students and school activities on the websites.Parents will receive QR codes to access the school’s website and their children’s details. “Two special educators or teachers from each school will be assigned the responsibility of uploading homework and lesson plans regularly so that even children on vacation can stay updated,” an official said. To make the websites more engaging, interactive quizzes will also be included. The platforms are being designed jointly by MCD’s education and IT depts, an official said, adding that the initiative will simplify time management and reduce teachers’ administrative burden. While the system is mobile-friendly, MCD acknowledged that not all parents, especially from underprivileged backgrounds, may have access to smartphones. “We expect this number to be small, but information will also be shared through messages, WhatsApp, parent-teacher meetings and other communication channels,” the official said.To boost enrolment, MCD has also launched the ‘Chalo School Chalein’ (let’s go to school) campaign, setting a target of enrolling 75,000 new students in the next three months. Parents who help bring more children from their neighbourhoods will be recognised as ‘brand ambassadors’ and felicitated by the civic body.At present, about 6.6 lakh students are enrolled in MCD-run schools, but the numbers have declined compared to the past few years.During Friday’s event, MCD also paid tribute to India’s freedom fighters and marked 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’. Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh described it as “an immortal expression of devotion, reverence, and pride for Mother India”.
