HC judge recuses from Uphaar evidence case

New Delhi: A Delhi High Court judge hearing the case of evidence tampering against Sushil and Gopal Ansal in relation to the Uphaar fire tragedy has recused himself after the victim’s association raised apprehension of getting a fair hearing.Justice Amit Mahajan transferred the case from his court on Oct 30 after the complainant, Neelam Krishnamoorthy, convenor of the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT) pointed out since the judge, “at some stage as a counsel, represented M/s. Ansal Housing and Construction Ltd., whose promoter is related to the accused persons in the present matter, she may not receive a fair hearing.” Justice Mahajan observed that even though the objection raised is meritless, in order to allay any fear that the complainant may have, the matter will be listed for a hearing before another Bench on 6 Nov 2025.
