EC must rectify voter list, else oppn will jointly decide on civic polls: Uddhav

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) party president Uddhav Thackeray and son and MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Monday launched a two-pronged attack over anomalies in voters’ list. Uddhav said that if the Election Commission (EC) doesn’t rectify the errors in the voters’ lists, then the opposition will have to jointly decide if they will allow the local body polls to be held or not. Uddhav said the EC won’t be able to hold local body polls unless it removes the errors in the voters’ lists and that cases should be filed against the EC for corrupt practices and fraud for manipulation in voters list.Uddhav said that when his party comes to power in the centre, he will file a case against the EC and its officers. He also indirectly referred to Shah as an ‘anaconda’ who was out to swallow Mumbai. Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray, too, alleged there were glaring anomalies for 19,333 voters in the voter lists in Worli assembly constituency alone and this was not an error but a fraud by the EC. Aaditya, sitting MLA from Worli, gave a presentation to Sena (UBT) office bearers at a gathering in Worli’s NSCI Dome. He alleged irregularities such as voter name and father’s name is the same, gender mismatch, duplicate voters and same persons with different EPIC numbers. Aaditya also highlighted that there are 113 voters in Worli who would now be over 100 years old, but have died long ago. Besides, 214 homes have 3,335 voters in Worli alone and 46 voters are registered with address of a sweetmeat shop, but no one lives there in reality. Uddhav also took dig at CM Devendra Fadnavis over his remark that those who are opposing projects are urban naxals who have taken a supari (contract) to oppose development. “Then I say that he (CM Fadnavis) is a terrorist who has taken supari from contractors in the name of development works. That is why all clearances were given by the center for Adani’s cement plant in Kalyan so that there is no shortage of cement for their projects,” Uddhav said. Uddhav said two traders have their eyes on Mumbai, referring to PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah without naming them. “I read two news stories in Saamna. On the first page was the inauguration of the BJP office and on the second page was a news story, in which it said an anaconda will soon come to Jijamata Park… Anaconda is a snake that swallows everything, and it came here today and performed the Bhoomi Pujan (of the BJP office). It wants to swallow Mumbai. Do you want to allow it to swallow Mumbai?,” Uddhav said. There are 113 voters who are over 100 years old. “We know voters who are over 75 years old. They can vote from home. But how can there be 113 voters in Worli who are over 100 years old. But many of them have already died way back in 2000, 2007 and even before 1995. Some died in 2021 but they are still in the voters list. People have voted in the name of these dead people,” Aaditya said.Uddhav urged his party workers to verify the voters lists and said that if they find any bogus voters attempting to vote on polling day, they should not hold back and such bogus voters should be beaten up.
