Pune: Some people on Tuesday night bludgeoned a 20-year-old woman to death with a stone just a few metres away from her residential building at Koregaon Mul village near Uruli Kanchan, about 40km from the city.Assistant inspector Dnyaneshwar Bajgire of the Lonikand police said the Std XII pass victim worked with an ayurveda practitioner from Uruli Kanchan. “The murder happened around 7.30pm, when she was returning home after work,” he said.Bajgire said the victim stayed with her mother and two brothers in Koregaon Mul. The family hails from Bihar.“The victim’s elder brother works as a driver. After completing Std XII in commerce, she also started working at the office of the ayurveda practitioner to help her family. She would pack the medicine at the office,” the officer said.Bajgire said the woman left her workplace office around 7pm on Tuesday. She was talking to a relative from Bihar over the cellphone while walking back home. She suddenly screamed, and her call was disconnected. “Her relative in Bihar became suspicious and alerted the woman’s younger brother,” the officer said.He said the woman’s brother searched for her in the area but could not find her. He then alerted the police. “We carried out searches and found the woman lying unconscious a few metres away from her residential building,” he said.Bajgire said the woman had injuries on her head and face. She was bludgeoned with a stone. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. “The reason behind the woman’s brutal murder is yet to be ascertained. We are working on some clues,” Bajgire said.
