Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation along with police on Tuesday demolished tin sheds, pakka houses and toilets illegally constructed by gangster Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar and his family members in Nana Peth.Deputy commissioner of police (zone I) Krushikesh Rawale told TOI: “These structures were erected by Andekar and his family members in Nana Peth without obtaining permissions from the civic authorities.”A civic official said the action was taken after they studied the documents of these properties. According to police, three sheds, three pakka houses, and eight toilets were razed. In the last two weeks, PMC and police had pulled down several illegal structures, installations, and a fish market, which were operated by Andekar and his family members. Faraskhana police arrested four men who, on behalf of the Andekar gang, allegedly collected monthly extortion money from vendors at the unauthorised fish market in Ganesh Peth. More than Rs 20 crore had been taken by Andekars in the last 12 years. On Sept 10, Samarth police invoked MCOCA charges against Andekar and 14 others arrested so far in the Sept 5 murder of his grandson, Ayush Komkar (18) in Nana Peth, which was seen as an act to avenge his son Vanraj’s murder. Ayush’s father, Ganesh, also Vanraj’s brother-in-law, is one of the 21 accused jailed in the former corporator’s murder that resulted from a property dispute within the Andekar family and rivalry with a former aide-turned-foe.
