New Delhi: A 29-year-old woman was found murdered in a hotel room in central Delhi’s Paharganj on Sunday.Police have arrested a man who has claimed to be in a relationship with the victim and checked into the hotel with her on Saturday.According to investigators, the accused suspected the woman was in a relationship with another person, which may have led to the crime.The deceased was identified as Sarika, while the accused, 31-year-old Sachin, was a resident of north Delhi. Both worked in a clock shop.Police got a PCR call around 9.47 am on Sunday that reported the discovery of the woman’s body in the hotel room. A team from Nabi Karim police station reached the scene.The hotel staff told the officers that a couple checked into the room on Saturday around 4.15pm. However, on Sunday morning, the man was missing, and the woman was found a few hiurs later lying unresponsive in the bathroom.“A preliminary inquiry has revealed that the man was last seen leaving the hotel alone in the morning. Later that evening, the hotel staff entered the room and found the woman lying motionless in the bathroom, following which the police were informed,” a senior officer said.Initial findings suggest the woman was strangled with a drawstring. The couple had ordered pizza and lassi around 6pm on Saturday, which was delivered to their room by the hotel staff.Identification documents submitted at the time of check-in indicated that both were residents of north Delhi. A note was also found in the room. It has been sent for forensic examination. “The note mentions something about marriage. We are investigating who the note was referring to,” the officer added.A forensic crime team was called to the hotel for a detailed examination of the room. They took photographs and collected various items from the scene for analysis.The woman’s body was sent for a postmortem.
