Pune: To help senior citizens safeguard their property rights and prevent inheritance-related disputes, the district registration and stamp duty department has launched a doorstep service to assist the elderly in drafting and registering their wills.The initiative is part of the state govt’s 100-day administrative reform programme and is being implemented under the ‘respect’ (sairam) project by Pune City District Registrar’s office. The move is aimed at ensuring that seniors’ assets are passed on according to their wishes—commonly recorded through will — while also offering legal guidance to those unfamiliar with the formalities involved in creating a valid will.In the first phase, officials conducted awareness sessions at Sonashray Old Age Home in Mohammedwadi, educating residents on the importance of preparing a will. The next phase will focus on providing home visits to seniors who are either homebound or physically unable to travel to the sub-registrar offices.· District registrar Santosh Hingane said, “Senior citizens who face mobility or health issues can now request a home visit for will registration.
