Pune: The city’s motor vehicle court on Monday sentenced two men to 15-day simple imprisonment, along with fines, after it found them guilty of drunk driving.According to the city traffic police, a man (29) from Sinhagad Road was caught for drunk driving in October 2024. Another man (29) from Pimple Gurav was found driving in an inebriated condition in February this year on Ganeshkhind Road. Both were prosecuted under the Motor Vehicles Act‘s sections 184 (driving dangerously) and 185 (driving by a drunk person).Inspector Runal Mulla of the city traffic police and the public prosecutor followed up the two cases in the court, following which the duo were sent to jail for 15 days. The court also fined the man from Sinhagad Road Rs10,000 and the other convict from Pimple Gurav Rs12,000.Deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav said, “We are following up many other cases of drunk driving in the court. We will continue to file more such cases and try our best to take these cases to the logical end.”As many as 3,948 drunk driving cases have been recorded in the city till now this year. Last year, a total of 5,293 such cases were reported in the city. In 2023, just 562 cases of drunk driving were recorded. Only 37 and 69 cases were registered in 2022 and 20121, respectively.
