Pune: The Army Institute of Cardio Thoracic Sciences (AICTS), Pune, hosted the Association of Physicians of India (API) – Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) national pulmonology conference from Sept 18 to 20.The three-day event brought together leading pulmonologists from the armed forces and premier medical institutions across India to discuss advancements in respiratory medicine and strategies to improve patient care.The conference opened with seven hands-on workshops on Sept 18, which were attended by over 300 residents and nearly 100 faculty members. These interactive sessions offered young doctors a rare opportunity to work directly with some of the country’s foremost experts and gain practical insights.The event was formally inaugurated by Lt Gen P P Rao, Director and Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC). Padma Shri Dr Randeep Guleria spoke on “Healthcare in 2030: Preparing for the Respiratory Revolution”.“Over 150 faculty members and more than 500 delegates participated in the conference, which featured sessions on recent developments in pulmonary medicine, systemic diseases affecting the lungs, and modern approaches to tuberculosis care,” said Col Dr Manu Chopra, head of the Department of Respiratory, AICTS.Maj Gen PK Sharma, Commandant of AICTS and Organising Chairperson, stated that the institute was a pioneer in respiratory care since its establishment in 1948. He emphasised the importance of such platforms in fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing in the field.
