NEW DELHI: Residents of Kirari in northwest Delhi have spent the past decade battling the same problems—persistent waterlogging, overflowing drains and crumbling roads.
The locality lacks proper sewerage and stormwater drainage system, just like 10 years ago.
The lone Kirari Suleman Nagar drain is too small to handle the area’s needs, leaving roads flooded every monsoon.
“My hand was fractured three months ago when I fell off the bike while negotiating potholes. Govts change, but the Kirari–Rohini stretch is still in a pathetic state,” says Nitish Kumar, 29, a resident.
The impact is felt daily. In Sept 2024, a local school was forced to close after sewage mixed with rainwater inundated its campus.
Key roads, including the Nangloi–Najafgarh stretch, remain riddled with potholes and prone to flooding year after year.
Ten years ago, this reporter visited Kirari during a dengue outbreak that claimed 12 lives and infected nearly 2,000 in a week.
Today, little has changed. The neglect endures, outlasting every govt.
