Marathwada floods: 49 stranded, army and NDRF deployed for rescue

PUNE: A total of 44 people from Ashti taluka of Beed district and another five persons from Sillod taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district have been stranded in flood water since Monday morning as overnight rains lashed many parts of Marathwada.Kada, Sobha Nimgaon, Ghata Pimpri, Pimparkhed and Dhanora are among flood-affected villages from Ashti taluka of Beed district, where the district administration sought help of Army teams and NDRF for rescue and relief measures. Helicopter has also been called from Nashik for airlifting affected people, officials from the district administration said.Deputy Chief Minister and Beed’s Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar has been in contact with the local district administration for rescue efforts. In Ambajogai taluka of Beed, a percolation tank situated at Chinchkhandi has developed a major breach. Around five people of Mouje Deulgaon Bazar from Sillod taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district were surrounded by flood water since Monday morning and efforts were on to rescue them.Among eight districts of Marathwada, Beed district has received maximum 37 mm rainfall during the past 24-hours ended by Monday morning, followed by Dharashiv (28 mm), Parbhani (25 mm), Latur (24 mm), Hingoli (14 mm), Nanded (12 mm), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (5 mm) and Jalna (3 mm), show official data. A total of 32 revenue circles from different parts of the region reported heavy rainfall of more than 65 mm with Shirur Kasar (104 mm) and Dhanora (96 mm) from Beed district reporting highest rainfall.All 11 major irrigation projects from Marathwada, including Jayakwadi dam from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district have been overflowing in the region.
