Pune: Residents of Waiduwadi, Gokhalenagar, and Janwadi are angry over the supply of contaminated and low-pressure water supply and have demanded that the administration take urgent steps to remedy the situation. On Friday, residents received poor-quality water in their taps. Local activist Pravin Dongare approached the civic administration’s water supply department for urgent intervention. Dongare said that the water pressure was low, and residents complained about erratic supply. Despite follow-ups, the issue was not resolved. “The administration should check if there are any leakages in the water distribution lines or leaking drainage lines leading to water contamination,” he said. Residents said that the drop in water pressure has been a major concern. Ashok Kamat, a local resident, said that water pressure reduced in the last few years, possibly due to illegal tapping into the distribution lines. “Citizens keep posting about instances of poor-quality water supply. We urge the water supply department to conduct detailed inspection of the distribution lines in the area and act against illegal connections,” he said. Another resident, Akash Gosavi, said that the administration recently constructed an overhead water tank in the area to improve water supply, but it lacks regular maintenance. “We want the administration to clean all the overhead tanks regularly to prevent deterioration of water quality,” he said. PMC officials said they will inspect if there are any leakages in the water supply or drainage lines in the area. Besides, cleaning of tanks will be taken up as a priority. “We will inspect the water lines in the next few days jointly with teams from the drainage department,” a civic official said.
