Delhi Police deny misconduct allegations against ASI after illicit liquor raid

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police denied allegations of misconduct made against one of their personnel by a woman in South East Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area on Saturday.In an official statement, police said they received a call around 9.30 am on Saturday reporting the sale and consumption of illicit liquor, along with a request for action by ASI Virender. Police personnel were dispatched to the location, where they seized 20 quarters and 20 bottles of illicit liquor from the premises.Approximately two hours later, another PCR call was received from a woman associated with the same location, alleging inappropriate behaviour by a cop. The complaint was forwarded to a Woman Sub-Inspector for necessary action.A small crowd soon gathered at the police station demanding immediate action against the officer in question. In response to the escalating situation, the DCP (South East District) and the ACP of Lajpat Nagar visited the station to address the concerns of the gathered individuals.The crowd was assured that a fair and transparent inquiry would be conducted and that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken based on the findings.Subsequently, the cop involved was transferred to district lines with immediate effect.“A detailed enquiry into the incident is underway. A fair investigation is assured — no one is above the law,” the Delhi Police statement concluded.
